Falcon and Roses

 I love before and after pictures. This big wall vase may be the largest one I've ever made and I am really happy with how it turned out.  A clay piece this size is like an accident waiting to happen, so many things can go wrong.   If you work with clay you know what I mean. Drying cracks, glaze malfunctions, kiln heating and cooling cracks, drips, colors shifting, color burning out...and on and on. So time to celebrate!

FIVE weeks until open studio show!

Run Rabbit Run

I've been glazing rabbits, birds, owls, butterflies and a few hedgehogs. Now they are all snug as a bug in the kiln getting toasty warm.
Open Studio Show is about six weeks away!

Have you ever heard of a sheep herding rabbit? It gets funnier at about the 2 minute mark.

Kiln Goddess of the Roses will be working hard this weekend.

Making a mural part two

I started this commission a few months ago, remember the four panels from a couple of month ago? It has been a long process with many revisions. Sometimes commissions are challenging! I usually don't work with such specifics being defined by the client, but this one was very special and she wanted it just right for her memories.

I thought I was finished at this point but there will a part three. She wants a fifth panel to add to these four. I'm working on it now and should be finished in next month. Here are some shots of glazing.

Tree Tiles

I just finished a special commission for an old friend of mine who will be giving the Tree of Life tile to each of her nieces and nephews in memory of her beautiful and talented 18 year old niece who died in a tragic accident last fall in her first year of college. So sad, I can barely fathom the pain. It means so much to me to be able to do something.

Things coming out of the kiln!

Last week was a glazing marathon week and there is still much more to do!  Dozens of new wall birds and some 16" diam wall platters. These will be going to Texas for a commission for a hospital. I still have about three more kilns to fire. The Kiln goddess will be working overtime for the next couple of weeks.

I just found out that a neighbor has these birds, Gouldian Finch, native to Australia.  Maybe she will let me come over to see them in person, hint-hint, Isadora. :)
