Tile Giveaway!

I've had some of my paintings printed on tiles, testing it out. Just for fun I am giving away this tile over on my Facebook page. Can you think of a caption for this?

Botanical

Got very absorbed in painting these and still more work to be done. But off to a good start!

I can't help but be reminded of painting on black velvet, remember that? As a child I remember getting an art set, I loved it! I think it was of horses....

I was chuckling because the name of the under-glaze I am using is Black Velvet. : )

Owl and Hedgehog

Hermes, the owlet. 4x4" ceramic tile. Cathy Kiffney
I'm pretty excited about a new project, my paintings printed on ceramic tile! So far the samples look pretty good. Right now I am just testing it out and I'm putting them on my etsy site, take a look.  I would love to know if people like them.

These are 4x4" , also will have some other sizes and images, stay tuned!

Have you ever seen a two foot tall bird?

sketch of possible commission. Cathy Kiffney Studio
I've had an request for a commission that would involve a group of very large birds! I'm not sure where they would go, the art consulting group that I work with does not tell me until we get the project. This could be fun!

Wood Thrush

Detail, Wood Thrushes in the Tulip Poplar, Cathy Kiffney
The woods are full of Wood Thrush this year, their song is so beautiful.

High on Nardil and June light
I wake at four,
waiting greedily for the first
note of the wood thrush. Easeful air
presses through the screen
with the wild, complex song
of the bird, and I am overcome
by ordinary contentment.
What hurt me so terribly
all my life until this moment?
How I love the small, swiftly
beating heart of the bird
singing in the great maples;
its bright, unequivocal eye.

The time has come, the walrus said...

painted plate wall hanging. 9" diam. Cathy Kiffney

'The time has come,' the walrus said, 'to talk of many things: of shoes and ships - and sealing wax - of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot--And whether pigs have wings." Lewis Carroll

I've always loved this quote!

Warm rain and birds

A day of warm spring rain, Gregorian Chants and meditative doodling. Nice!
Someone gave me these bisque  dishes ages ago and I was getting ready to take them to the thrift store but then though, why not? I think it will work. We'll soon find out, they go into the kiln today.

Hope springs eternal

Cathy Kiffney Studio
beginning, Cathy Kiffney

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never is, but always to be blessed:
The soul, uneasy and confined from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

– Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man
